Workshop in Modena: innovation in high-performance vehicles and powertrains
Study day on 7 May 2026 in the Church of San Carlo, Modena, promoted by DIEF-UNIMORE and SAE Naples, with speakers from industry, motorsport, consultancies and public research. Aimed mainly at UNIMORE students but open to researchers, technicians and enthusiasts.

Giacomo Belgiorno receives SAE Foundation Young Industry Leadership award
SAENA member Giacomo Belgiorno received the SAE Foundation's 2025 Ford Young Industry Leadership award, for people with under 12 years of industry experience who show exceptional leadership potential. He is an associate editor of the SAE International Journal of Engines, Fuels and Lubricants and of STEEP.
SAENA Thesis Award 2025 winners
Veronica Patrizi (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia) and Domenico Episcopo (Politecnico di Bari) won the 2025 award, both with theses on hydrogen direct injection in engines.

SAE awards to SAENA members at WCX 2024
Board member Angelo Onorati (Politecnico di Milano) was named SAE Fellow, and Gabriele Di Blasio and Luigi Sequino (STEMS-CNR) received the Forest R. McFarland Award. The post lists earlier SAENA Fellows: Antonello Cogotti, Felice Esposito Corcione, Bianca Maria Vaglieco and Fabio Bozza.

Formula SAE Award 2019-2020: call for applications
SAENA offered a cash prize to Formula SAE teams that competed and gave the section visibility in 2019 and 2020. Applications closed on 30 November 2021.
Outstanding Master's Thesis Award 2020 winners
Francesco Penza (Politecnico di Bari) and Marco Piras (University of Naples Federico II) won the 2020 award: 500 euro each and free participation in ICE2021.
Thesis Award 2020: call for applications (deadline extended)

SAENA members Stefano Fontanesi (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia) and Michele Battistoni (University of Perugia) received the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award 2020.

Ezio Mancaruso elected President of SAENA
On 16 September 2019 Ezio Mancaruso, researcher at Istituto Motori-CNR in Naples, was elected President of the SAE Naples Section, taking over from Cesare Pianese.

In memoriam: Professor Takeyuki Kamimoto
Professor Emeritus Takeyuki Kamimoto, 'Take' to the community, died on 28 August 2018. The SAENA Governing Board remembers a great friend, scientist and teacher.

SAE International President Mircea Gradu, Executive Advisor-Global Murli Iyer and a SAENA delegation (Cesare Pianese, Ezio Mancaruso, Silvana Di Iorio) visited the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (CIRA) on 7 June 2018.

UniNa Corse tops the Virtual Formula 2017 world ranking
The UniNa Corse team took first place in the Virtual Formula 2017 world ranking, a competition that simulates Formula SAE dynamic events from vehicle design parameters. The team also competed at the Italian Formula SAE event in Varano de Melegari and was preparing for an event abroad.

Fabio Bozza receives the Lloyd L. Withrow Distinguished Speaker Award
Prof. Fabio Bozza, SAENA Vice Chair for activities, received the Lloyd L. Withrow Distinguished Speaker Award after winning the SAE Oral Presentation Award more than twice. It was presented at SAE World Congress in Detroit on 12 April 2016.
Federico Millo named SAE Fellow
Prof. Federico Millo, SAENA Vice Chair Geographical Division, was named SAE Fellow, the fourth SAENA member to receive this grade. The award was presented at SAE World Congress 2016 in Detroit.
