GKN Aerospace has publicly shown a clean-sheet uncrewed aerial vehicle demonstrator built for the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), less than a year after the programme was launched. FMV awarded the contract in November 2025 with an 18-month deadline to deliver both the UAV demonstrator and a purpose-built turbojet engine, with scope covering the airframe, propulsion system and onboard systems.
The programme draws on GKN Aerospace's propulsion, aerostructures and systems-integration capabilities across its Swedish, Dutch and UK operations. Joakim Andersson, president of engines at GKN Aerospace, described the reveal as the first tangible output of work that began as an ambition a year ago, crediting close cooperation with FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces.
The demonstrator is conceived as a flexible test-and-evaluation platform for future uncrewed aviation technologies, and GKN Aerospace says the effort is also aimed at proving out methods for developing, integrating and manufacturing complex aerospace systems on compressed schedules, with an eye to scalable production. The next phase will involve continued development and testing, including preparation for flight trials.
The first public appearance consisted of a full-scale mock-up displayed alongside the turbojet engine under development for the aircraft. The unveiling took place at The Armed Forces Air Venture 2026, held at Malmen Air Base in Linköping as part of the Swedish Air Force's centenary celebrations.
