The HIDDEN consortium, an EU-funded initiative on Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM), has published a new article building on its 26 May 2026 webinar "From Principles to Practice: Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in AI-Driven CCAM." The piece, developed with SSH Experts, is titled "The Value of Including Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in EU-Funded Innovation and Research: The HIDDEN Project."
For engineers working on automated driving systems, the article is a reminder that technical performance alone does not determine deployment success. It draws on contributions from specialists in engineering, psychology, ethics, law, standardisation and human factors, arguing that CCAM systems need input from these disciplines throughout the innovation lifecycle, not as an afterthought once a technology is mature.
The stated aim is to show how embedding SSH considerations early and continuously helps produce automated mobility solutions that meet not just technical benchmarks but also standards of trustworthiness, inclusivity and ethical acceptability, factors that directly affect user acceptance and regulatory approval.
