Spanish power electronics developer NX Technologies has secured a €1.9 million grant under Spain's PERTE VEC industrial policy scheme to fund development of a new generation of traction inverters for light electric vehicles. The project, running from 2026 through 2029, was awarded in the fifth call for proposals under the programme.
NX Technologies, headquartered in San Sebastián, focuses on compact traction systems and battery management systems spanning the full range of electrified transport, from motorcycles and quad bikes to trucks, buses and tractors. The company already operates in the Netherlands, France, the UK, India and the US, but continues to anchor its R&D activity in Spain, which was a factor in its PERTE eligibility. All development and manufacturing reportedly takes place in Europe.
The grant arrives during a period of rapid expansion for the company: since its founding, NX Technologies has raised over €10 million in combined public and private funding and has invested €5.2 million in R&D to date. Headcount, currently around 40 employees, grew by 50 percent over the past year.
According to CEO Mikel Peral, the new inverter line targets a segment of light vehicles – covering road, maritime and aviation applications – where the company says European suppliers offering solutions matched to upcoming market requirements remain scarce. The funding is intended to speed up development timelines and strengthen NX's position in traction inverters across vehicle classes.
